Here we have a print named In Disgrace by Arthur Hughes, 1881. This print portrays a poor girl fast asleep with her book in hand as she has been sent away by the stone faced teacher in disgrace for not completing her work. It seems like the little girl comes from a poor background where she has to carry out chores before she can attend to her school work. The young girl is over worked and all she can do is unknowingly fall asleep while the teacher checks the homework of the other pupils. Judging by the footwear the original painting my have been based in a Dutch school setting. This print was engraved by the A.G Alais 1st October 1881 which is shown on the original print. A nice piece to add to that special enclosed wall space.
This print is a vintage reproduction but not all reproductions are created with the same providence and value.
This particular print is not a modern or digital reproduction using modern technology; they are not widely or infinitely available nor can any more be produced.
As such, these are an affordable alternative to the original lithographs that run into their 100's if not 1,000's for collecting and decorative purposes.
Condition
This piece shows natural signs of ageing which adds to its character. There is some water staining to the original white inner paper frame borders but this can be changed if requested.
