For your viewing we have this collection of vintage prints by Richard Barrett Davis. Davis was an animal and landscape painter born in Watford in 1782. He studied under William Evans of Eton, William Beechey, and in the schools of the Royal Academy where he first exhibited in 1802. He later joined the Society of British Artists in 1829, and was appointed animal painter to William IV in 1831. Davis died in 1854. This collection dramatically focuses on the upper class country lifestyle which was heavily based on game hunting. These prints depict upon these times and showcases the sport at its pomp and prime. The 1st lithograph is entitled, 'Grouse Shooting August'. The 2nd is called 'Partridge Shooting September'. The 3rd is 'Pheasant Shooting October'. The 4th is entitled 'Snip Shooting November'. The 5th is entitled 'Woodcock Shooting November' and the final one from this collection is called 'Waterfowl shooting January'. These six prints theme themselves on the annual hunt throughout the yearly months. Six further animal shooting prints are out there to add to this collection so this could be a great start to finding the other six prints to make that full collection.
Condition
These prints are vintage etchings, aquatint and hand-coloured reproductions but are created with the same providence and value.
The prints are not a modern or digital reproduction using modern technology; they are not widely or infinitely available nor can any more be produced.
As such, these are an affordable alternative to the original lithographs for collecting and decorative purposes.
The prints come in their original frames and shows natural signs of ageing which add to their character. There's some staining to the original white inner paper frame borders.
