Here we have a vintage print By the artist Samual Cousins. A head and shoulders portrait of a young child, turned to the left, head turned towards the spectator, wearing a white dress with both arms resting on a table on which is placed an apple on a slice of bread. This piece was engraved by the art dealer Thomas Agnew & Son (1794-1871) which is shown on the original labelling on the reverse side. The piece has been signed by Samuel Cousins which you will find to the bottom right and a print sellers association stamp has been added to the bottom left to give more authenticity. A truly lovely collectors piece.
The original oil painting by Jean-Baptiste Grueze (1725-1805) was given to the Upton House National Trust by Walter Samuel, 2nd Viscount Bearsted (1882 – 1948) shortly before his death.
This print is a reproduction but not all reproductions are created with the same providence and value.
This particular print is not a modern or digital reproduction using modern technology; they are not widely or infinitely available nor can any more be produced.
As such, these are an affordable alternative to the original lithographs that run into their 100's if not 1,000's for collecting and decorative purposes.
Condition
This piece shows natural signs of ageing which add to its character. There is some water staining to the original white inner paper frame borders but this can be changed if requested.
