For your viewing we have a vintage dolls display pram. This is a replica of a Victorian toy pram dating from 1880-1900. This Victorian toy pram was a smaller version of the prams made for girls of this time. The style of pram was known as the Carriage Pram because it evolved from horse-drawn carriages. It has a folding black hood attached to a wicker and wood bassinet/crib, and is lined with black material which sits on top of a four-wheeled chassis. Prams of this period usually had a wood and reed chassis, a wooden turned handle, a large metal chassis and penny-farthing type wheels, and this toy pram follows that design. One for the serious collectors.
In Victorian times only wealthy families could afford such splendid toys for their children.
These prams were factory made, and each part was manufactured separately and then assembled on a Victorian production line.
At the end of the century, French 'bebe' dolls were very popular with young girls. Before this, dolls had been imitations of adult figures. With the new fashion for baby dolls, a whole range of accessories was developed including cots, cradles and prams.
Condition
This piece is in vintage condition with signs of previous use, knocks, scrapes and scratches with light surface paint loss.
Overall this period doll's pram is in functional order and in fantastic in condition for it's age ready to add to both commercial display or home interiors.
