For your viewing we have this original 1930s Herbert Terry & sons Anglepoise 1227 desk lamp. Here we have the super iconic 1227 adjustable desk lamp, the ultimate classic, designed by George Carwardine and manufactured by Herbert Terry & Sons, Redditch, England between the late 1930's until the 1960's; the quintessential desk lamp and best-selling icon of British design. These lamps pioneered a novel formula of constant-tension springs that enables the lamps functional design to easily pivot and angle light in any direction, with a smooth gliding motion that can be repositioned with the slightest of touches whilst remaining stable once in place. To the top of this lamp sits its adjustable shade that has the ability to focus the light exactly where it’s needed. These lamps are steeped in history but are more now used.

The early Model 1227 (1938 - 1968)

This lamp has a two tier base, with a steel cover.
The forks were mainly cast as a whole component with the Anglepoise.
'Made by Herbert Terry & Sons’ moulded into the fork.
The springs often had metal caps added so that the spring length could be adjusted changing the spring tension.
Early models have the steel linkage strips and spacers at the bottom.
The shade becomes wider without any air vents on the side but larger ones on the top of the shade. Earlier models had the shade rolled outwards at the bottom, whereas later models were often without this rolled edge.
