Here we have a pair of stunning, decorative, original early victorian cast iron hob grate fire inserts. Both inserts are beautifully forged featuring acanthus leaf designs above the grate and similar smaller designs at the top of the fires. Below the warming plate the fires have a repeated pattern on the legs and they retain the original front bars. The iron has been blacked and polished which enhances their superb original look. These inserts have there original registration marks which are very easy to read. To the left, referring to the month made, they are dated between 1842-1867. The kite marks are featured in 2 areas on the back and the top plates have some other script style numbers. The fires have a stunning appearance and would make a wonderful statement within a period home.
The back support legs have broken off and have been retained for possible repair by purchaser. Part of the kite dating mark is also on the top of the leg.
The top of the back plates have cracks on either side of the smoke hole but the fire inserts are fairly strong and sturdy. Some marks, scratches and wear can be seen. The hob grates do have some damage due to age but they are ideal for decorative use. The top plates will need securing by purchaser.
