We are proud to have for your viewing the PH5 pendant lamp Here we have a very special piece of design history that changed the course of lighting design forever. This lamp is now considered a modern design classic, designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen Lighting in 1958, which are still in production to this day. Henningsen set about creating a lamp that would provide a flattering, glare-free light as close to natural light as possible. To achieve this the lamp was designed with five separate aluminium curved shape shades, which sets the bulbs inside the heart of the lamp and disperses the light in different directions to ensure there are no visible transitions in the light’s brightness and helped neutralise the unpleasant yellowish tint of the incandescent bulb. This gives the light its warm, natural feel, It's all about the detail and in a beautiful bright red you couldn't get a better example of this iconic shade.

Paul Henningsen is the Danish designer that gifted the world the PH 5.

It was actually the designer’s mother who, displeased with the new incandescent light bulbs of the time, gave her son the inspiration to build the lamp we know and love today.

While Henningsen’s mother didn’t care much for the harsh, unflattering light of the new bulbs, in truth nor did he. So, building upon one of his earlier models, the rest, as they say, is history. Not only an instant success when it was released in 1958, the PH 5 is still Louis Poulsen’s most successful lighting design to date.
