We have been lucky to recently come across this pair of early machinists chairs on there original runners. These early industrial chairs are iconic in their use of vulcanised cardboard for the seats and backs. A tough and practical material that was suited to the harsh environment of the factory floor. With no fabric upholstery they could be cleaned with a damp cloth, fairly resistant to fire, and with years of use they would gently mould to a comfortable bottom shape. Other key features are their swivelling seats that are height adjustable on a threaded base, rubber bumpers used behind the curved back rest to cushion the attachment of the backrest to the main frame and allow some movement. Finally these chairs float on their round moulded production line runners, which we find a very rare concept. A wonderful industrial addition around the home or in a restaurant bar or simple props.
